Swindon Borough Council is one of the fastest growing local areas in the country. It was rated as 'Improving Strongly' in its 2007 Comprehensive Performance Assessment. To continue this, Swindon Borough Council has set itself a challenging agenda so that an excellent local community and dynamic business environment will ultimately be supported by an excellent Council.
The Council, a unitary authority since 1997, is the largest employer in the area with 8,000 staff
providing the full range of local services including Education and Social Services. The Council has a gross revenue budget of £356m of which £137m relates to Children’s Services. Council-wide net revenue spend amounts to £118m, while the capital programme for 2007/08 was £108m.
The Council has a private sector partnership with Capita and is also working with other public sector agencies and service providers, including health, police, fire and the voluntary and independent sectors to deliver its ambition to create a first class community supported by an excellent Council.
